My lab studies macroautophagy/autophagy using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the model system. Autophagy is conserved from yeast to human, and autophagic dysfunction is associated with a wide range of diseases. We are interested in understanding the mechanism of autophagy, how the process is regulated, and the structure-function relationships among the autophagy-related proteins. In addition, we collaborate with several labs working with human patients in order to provide direct links between mutations in autophagy-related genes and the observed phenotypic outcomes.
